In the high valleys of Kyrgyzstan, men still hunt the way their great-grandfathers did: on horseback, with a golden eagle on one arm. I rode out to meet them, slept in yurts, drank more fermented mare's milk than I will ever admit, and learned what a tradition looks like when it is still fully alive.
